Complete Dentures 101 - An intro to Complete Dentures

What you need to know about Complete Dentures

A complete denture is made when either all of the upper and/or lower teeth are lost and need to be replaced. A complete denture replaces all of your teeth. Beyond appearance, a complete denture enables you to chew your food properly ( digestion starts in the mouth) and improve speech.

If you are currently missing all of your teeth in an arch or are expecting future extractions that will leave you edentulous (without teeth), then a full or complete denture will be required. Replacing your missing teeth is essential to your overall health and ability to properly digest food.

Did you know that your health and eating habits will be impacted by missing teeth? When you are missing teeth, the capacity to chew is reduced. Nutritional deficiencies, digestive issues, depression, and other psychological effects might be brought on by an unbalanced diet or low self-esteem due to missing teeth. We are here to help!

We are pleased to offer many complete denture options and features such as:

  • Digital Dentures for strength, improved fit & ability to replicate ( ideal for those living in personal care homes or who travel)

  • BPS Precision Dentures for our clients with a high esthetic and functional demand

  • Cutter Bars for higher chewing efficiency

  • Soft Liners for comfort

There are 2 types of complete dentures:

Standard, and Precision.

The main differences between the dentures are:

  • The number of measurements taken (how well the denture functions)

  • The material of the denture base (how well the denture fits the gums in your mouth and how dense/ strong the material is)

  • The material of the denture teeth (how wear resistant the denture is, the appearance of the teeth/layers

Our denturists at Beausejour Denture Clinic can create an Immediate Denture to prevent the circumstance of having no teeth (Surgical Denture). In order to do this, impressions of your mouth must be taken while your natural teeth are still in place. Then, your denturist can create a denture that closely resembles your actual teeth or make any required adjustments you may like.

Denture adjustments will be needed as oral tissues regress throughout the healing process. A follow-up visit with your Denturist is required. A temporary liner or tissue conditioner may be inserted into your denture to preserve the optimum fit and comfort. The bone and gum tissue will continue to repair and shrink over the coming months, though at a slower rate than before. This is to be expected as it is a natural occurrence. Your denture will need to be rebased, relined, or rebuilt after the healing process is through.

We understand that this is a lot of information to process and this is why we offer free, no-obligation consultations with your Denturist. You will be given various treatment options and an estimate of costs.

Your denturist will collaborate closely with all other dental specialists involved in the treatment plan once you have given your consent to the procedure. (If applicable, such as an oral surgeon or periodontist.)
